The Future Looks Bright
The Future Looks Bright
In an era where migration, exile, and political oppression remain urgent
global issues, Büke Erkoç plays a young immigrant woman caught in the
currents of history, as she grapples with choices that define her
existence. A shape-shifting single suitcase transforms into a high-rise
building, a bed, a consulate kiosk, even a coffin, as this visually
striking piece of object theatre brings to life a story of exile, memory
and resistance. Devised from Turkish writer Sebnem Isigüzel’s novel Hanene
Ay Dogacak. ‘A poetic physicality runs through Büke Erkoç’s veins’ (Erdem
Avsar, UNESCO Resources Blog and Briefings).
