My Mother Had Two Faces: Reflections on Beauty, Aging and Acceptance
31 JUL - 26 AUG (NOT 13, 20) - 13:20
Presented in pseudo-fairytale style, this one-woman dramatic comedy dares to expose what lies beneath the mask of the perfect mother. Discovering her mother's diaries after her passing, the heroine Karin begins to examine the history of their complicated relationship: from the gritty, urban streets of New York to her Swiss mother's manicured orderliness. Engaged in conversations with her mirrored reflection, Karin wrestles with her own inner demons. A riveting and poetic journey employing multimedia and masks that asks, when we strip away the make-up, what is revealed? ****½ (TheFrontRowCenter.com).

Complicated mother-daughter relationships certainly are a buzzing topic in my world, so I'm 100% the right audience for this!
Such a personable beautiful little show full of compassion! Although sadly I was a few minutes late and had to run to the backseats (where the AC seemed to be running quite loudly, so I struggled to hear everything), Karin's performance was hugely empathic towards her mum, herself and her own children (!). As a woman in her 20s, still healing from family wounds (and parents that still happily pretend all was good), there was something quite healing about seeing a woman my mum's age being so open, vulnerable and self-aware - reflecting not only on her mum's life but her own mishaps as a mother of two.
"We are the mirror, as well as the face in it".
Thank you so much for bringing it to the Fringe
